Before becoming one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, Barry Sanders had arguably one of the greatest college football seasons of all-time. Learning under legendary running back Thurman Thomas at Oklahoma State in his first two seasons, Sanders got his chance to start in his junior year in 1988. He led the entire country with 7.6 yards per rushing attempt and 238.9 rushing yards per game, while rushing for over 300 yards in four different games. Sanders broke NCAA single-season records with 2,628 rushing yards and 37 rushing touchdowns, while also adding two more touchdowns on special teams. Although not officially counted at the time, he added an additional 222 yards and five touchdowns in just three quarters in the 1988 Holiday Bowl to cap off his historic season. Without surprise, Sanders would go on to win the 1988 Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football that year. He would be drafted third overall by the Detroit Lions in the 1989 NFL Draft and continued his dominance to have a Hall of Fame NFL career.
