Have you ever noticed that the peace and solitude of the forest is often broken by what seems to be the sound of two pebbles being banged together. “Tt...t..tt.....tt”...you can make the sound by suddenly sucking your tongue down and away from your upper pallet.

That, my friends, is the sound of the Chipmunk, chattering away as it sits on a log looking to the right, then to the left, sharply flipping its tail all the while... “flip.....flip..flip.”

I always get the feeling that the little guy is challenging me to play with it as it jumps from branch to branch, stopping each time to look at me with its “Tt..t...tt...ttt”.

Or it will sit back on its hind legs on a branch or on the forest floor, tail still flipping rapidly, while holding a nut or seed in its tiny front paws, only to have one of its friends jump in, trying to steal the snack.

One will chase the other up, down and around the tree at lightning speed. Never a mistake; never a slip or a fall.
